Blaze orange and deep forest green because that’s what Maine is about.
The natural Kapok fill is so water repellant that the Governor Baxter dog bed can float, even with a dog on it.
The Governor Baxter dog bed is as comfortable outdoors as it is indoors—just like your dog.
NOW IN THREE SIZES: Pug, Mutt, and Bear!
Our beds are filled with 100% natural Kapok from seed pods in trees, which means it’s compostable. This is the material used in all flotation devices before the 1960s. It has no odor and it is antimicrobial and hypoallergenic. The liner material is 100% Ahimsa silk, also known as Peace Silk, sustainably harvested from silkworms that have exited their cocoons. Even the vegans are OK with it.
We use the best Martexin Wax Finish fabrics from Martin Corporation, based in New Jersey. The base fabric we use is a very rugged all cotton canvas duck. It’s an 18oz sq/yd but after the wax finishing it’s actually 24oz! The wax process developed by Martin Corp utilizes a food grade paraffin wax and has no solvents, fluoropolymers or formaldehyde used in the finishing process. A surface safe enough to lick! The top trim fabric on both sides is called GridWax. It’s a 10.10 oz duck canvas which also gets the Martexin wax finish.
We did not want to use any synthetic materials so we were determined to use 100% cotton thread but the fact is polyester is better suited for the items we make, including the dog bed. It is stronger, it is abrasion resistant and it absorbs very little moisture so it has excellent wet strength. And Polyester is old school! It was in the late 1930′s and early 1940′s that British research chemists created polyester fibers. In the UK it was called Terylene and over here it was first marketed as Dacron. The thread we use is a sailmakers thread with anti-wick properties that actually blocks water migration through the seams.
